Inherited from Ashokan Prakrit *𑀅𑀝𑁆𑀝𑀓𑁆𑀓𑁆- (*aṭṭakk-), probably borrowed from Dravidian. Compare Punjabi ਅਟਕਣਾ (aṭakṇā), Gujarati અટકવું (aṭakvũ), Marathi अडकणे (aḍakṇe), Bengali আটকানো (aṭkanō).
