saramură

Romanian

Alternative forms

Etymology

Ultimately from Late Latin salimuria, from Latin sal + muria, likely through an intermediate Greek σαλαμούρα (salamoúra), from Venetian salimora, salamora. It may also be possible that it did derive directly from Latin, especially the variant form sărămură (but not the form salamură).

Pronunciation

  • IPA(key): [ˈsa.ra.mu.rə]

Noun

saramură f (plural saramuri)

  1. salt water, brine
    Synonym: apă sărată
