From Ottoman Turkish and Old Anatolian Turkish قاپو (qapu). Ultimately a derivation from Proto-Turkic *kap- (to close, cover). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰴𐰯𐰍 (kapıg), Uzbek qopi (door), Southern Altai кабу (kabu, net for fish), Azerbaijani qapı, etc.
