Etymology

From Ottoman Turkish كاغد (ḱāğıd), from Common Turkic [Term?] (compare Karakhanid [script needed] (kāɣïd, paper)), ultimately from Sogdian 𐼸𐼰𐼲𐼹𐼰 (kʾγδʾ /kāγaδā/); further etymology is unknown, perhaps a borrowing from Old Chinese (OC *kjeʔ).
