From Ottoman Turkish كوكل, گوڭل (göñül), from Old Turkic 𐰚𐰇𐰭𐰠 (köŋül), from Proto-Turkic *köyŋ-il (heart, mood). Cognate with Azerbaijani könül, Bashkir күңел (küñel), Kazakh көңіл (köñıl), Uyghur كۆڭۈل (kö'ngül) and Yakut көҥүл (köñül).
