Etymology

Shortening of cipellő.[1]

  1. shoe (a protective covering for the foot)

Usage notes

The singular form Lua error in Module:utilities at line 142: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'h' (a nil value) can mean either a pair of shoes or one shoe out of a pair, while the plural cipők is used for more than one pair. To better distinguish between these, expressions like fél pár cipő (half a pair of shoes) can be used. The same also holds true for other clothing items and accessories that come in pairs, such as kesztyű (gloves), zokni (socks), fülbevaló (earrings), etc.

Declension

Lua error: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'h' (a nil value)
