From Proto-Balto-Slavic *rēpā́ˀ, *rāpā́ˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)rāp-éh₂, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)rḗps, (s)rā́ps. Cognate with Lithuanian rópė (“turnip”).
