Perhaps from Proto-Balto-Slavic *dáuṣjāˀ, from Proto-Indo-European *dʰowsyeh₂, from *dʰews- +‎ *-yeh₂. Equivalent to *duxъ (“spirit”) +‎ *-ja.

Compare Lithuanian daũsios f pl (“air; empyrean, paradise”), Gaulish dusios (“phantasm”).
