Borrowed from Proto-Norse [script needed] (*skulpaʀ), from Proto-Germanic *skulpaz (whence dialectal Norwegian skolp (“small hollowed out block of wood”), Old Norse skolpr (“gouge”), Swedish skölp (“gouge”)).
