Etymology
Sino-Vietnamese word from 耶穌教, composed of 耶穌 (“Jesus”) and 教 (“religion”), from Japanese 耶蘇教 (Yasokyō). Used in early Japanese documents for "Christianity", with an alternative form 耶蘇宗 (Yasoshū, literally “Jesus sect”). In Chinese, it means "Protestantism" specifically.
