Derived from Proto-Turkic *köŕ (“eye”), equivalent to 𐰚𐰇𐰔𐰤‎ (közün-, “to be seen, to be visible”) +‎ 𐰏𐰇‎ (-gü). Cognate with Azerbaijani güzgü (“mirror”), Uzbek koʻzgu, Bashkir көҙгө (köźgö, “mirror”).
