Usage notes

Neither the gender, nor the declension class, nor the quantity of the vowel of the second syllable is known for sure. The only attested forms are the accusative singular ๐†๐Œฟ๐Œป๐Œป๐Œด๐Œน๐Œธ (fulleiรพ) (spelled to suggest long /iห/ in the second syllable) and genitive plural ๐†๐Œฟ๐Œป๐Œป๐Œน๐Œธ๐Œด (fulliรพฤ“) (spelled to suggest short /i/ in the second syllable). The analysis as a feminine i-stem is based on the assumption that the word contains the Proto-Germanic suffix *-รพiz, which when added to the verb stem *fullj- would presumably have given *fulliรพiz.

The sense โ€œnew moon festivalโ€ (translating Ancient Greek ฮฝฮตฮฟฮผฮทฮฝฮฏฮฑ (neomฤ“nรญa)) is surprising, as one might expect a word derived from ๐†๐Œฟ๐Œป๐Œป๐Œพ๐Œฐ๐Œฝ (fulljan) to refer to the full moon rather than the new moon. Perhaps the sense is the completion of a month.
