Uncertain. Possibly from a form *tlΔ-two-, from Proto-Indo-European *telhβ- in the sense βto offerβ, as found in Venetic [script needed] (tolar, βoffersβ) and the same suffix of Latin statua (βstatueβ) and Oscan eituam (βmoneyβ).
