Etymology
From Lua error in Module:utilities at line 142: attempt to perform arithmetic on local 'h' (a nil value).[1] Found in the Man'yōshū of 759 CE.[2]
Analyzable as a compound of 夜 (yo, “night”) + 船 (fune, “boat, ship”).[1][3][4][5][6]
Also encountered as yobune.[1][3][4][5][6] The fune changes to bune as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
