Generally 國際學生／国际学生 (guójì xuéshēng) is used to refer to students of various nationalities, while 留學生／留学生 (liúxuéshēng) is used to refer to any student studying outside of his or her region of origin, including, for example, students from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan studying in mainland China.
