Borrowed from Bactrian, from Proto-Iranian *ráwxšnaH (literally “shining, radiant, brilliant”),[1][2][3] from Proto-Indo-Iranian *ráwkšnaH, from Proto-Indo-European *lówksneh₂ (“moon”). Doublet of λῠ́χνος (lúkhnos, “lamp”).
