Etymology
From Proto-Semitic *ṣbṭ- (“to seize, take hold of, catch”). Compare Arabic ضَبَطَ (ḍabaṭa, “to take, hold”) and Biblical Hebrew צָבַט (ṣɔḇáṭ, “to reach, hold”).
