Inherited from Old Telugu ఏఱు (ēṟu), from Proto-Dravidian *yĀṯu. Cognate with Manda (India) ଏଯ (ēy), Tamil ஆறு (āṟu), Malayalam ആറ് (āṟŭ), Kuvi ଏ୕ୟୁ (ēyu), Tulu ಉದೆ (ude), Tulu ಹುದೆ (hude).
