Borrowed from Classical Persian پناه (panāh), ultimately from Middle Persian 𐭯𐭭𐭠𐭧 (panāh, “protector; refuge”). Also spelt in Bengali as পনাহ (ponaho) and পানাহ (panaho). Compare Hindustani पनाह / پناہ (panāh).
