Etymology
Probably a borrowing from a substrate language. Less likely, from a Proto-Indo-European *melnd-, *mernd- (“to turn”). Compare Nihali मौड्ढारी, "mōḍḍhārī" "triangle", for the "triangle" sense in the Caturvargacintāmaṇi.
