Etymology
Inherited from Prakrit [script needed] (gāmaddha), from Sanskrit ग्रामार्ध (grāmārdha, “vicinity of village”), compound of ग्राम (grā́ma, “village”) + अर्ध (árdha, “half; side; place”). Compare Saraiki گَوان٘ڈھ / گَواڈھ and Marathi गांवधें (gāuvdhẽ).
