Etymology 1
Borrowed from Turkic, from Proto-Turkic *köč (“nomadizing”). Compare Chagatai كوچ (köç), Azerbaijani köç, Turkish göç. Already attested as the name of a nomadic tribe in the Shāhnāma, c. 1010.
