Borrowed from Aramaic זָבוֹנָא‎ / ܙܳܒܘܿܢܳܐ‎ (zāḇōnā, “buyer”). Its root is cognate to Arabic ز م ل‎ (z-m-l), و ز ن‎ (w-z-n).

1. humbled, vanquished, helpless, abject
