Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *ăča / *ĕče "mother; elder sister; older woman".

Compare with Kyrgyz эже (eje, elder sister; a way to address an older woman), Southern Altai эје (eǰe, elder sister; a way to address an older woman), Uzbek ocha (grandmother), Uyghur ئاچا (acha, elder sister; a way to address an older woman), etc.
