чобіт
Ukrainian
Etymology
Borrowed from Iranian languages through Western or Central European languages, compare Italian ciabatta or German Schabatte and Persian چپت (čapat, “a kind of traditional leather shoe”). Due to the accent on the first syllable, the mediation of the Turkic languages is unlikely, compare Tatar чабата (çabata, “overshoes”).
