Borrowed from Persian خدا‎ (xodâ, “God”).

Cognate with Tatar ходай (xoday), Kazakh Құдай (Qūdai), Kyrgyz, Southern Altai, Tuvan кудай (kuday), Khakas худай (xuday), Shor қудай, Uzbek xudo, Uyghur худо (xudo), Turkish Hüdā etc.
