From earlier *ulə, from Proto-Mordvinic *ūlə̑, from Pre-Mordvinic *ōla, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *ola (“chin”). Cognates include Moksha ула (ula), Lule Sami oalol, Kildin Sami вуал- (vual-) and Hungarian áll.
