Etymology
From Proto-Mordvinic *keźə(v)-, from Proto-Finno-Ugric *küśe-w-. The modern Erzya form possibly influenced by кевкстамс (kevkstams, “to get hard”).
Cognate with Moksha кизефтемс (kiźefťems), Finnish kysyä, Veps küzuda, Northern Sami gahčat, Akkala Sami кэһчче (kehčč’e).
