Etymology

A post-Mongol invasion – attested first in the Praying of Daniel the Immured – Turkic borrowing of a form bōr or būr applied to bay horses, found in Chagatai بور‎ (bōr, “bay horse”), Turkish mor / مور‎ (“violet”) or boz / بوز‎ (“gray”) reconstructed from Proto-Turkic *boŕ, also in Mongolic, Buryat боро (boro, “gray”) etc., also in Tungusic, Evenki боро (boro, “gray”) etc., ultimately of Iranian origin equivalent to Middle Persian [script needed] (bwl /⁠bōr⁠/, “reddish-brown, bay”), Persian بور‎ (bôr).
