From Proto-Permic *baŋ, borrowed from Bulgar, from Proto-Turkic *beŋ (“birthmark, mole”), whence also Turkish ben (“mole”) and beniz (“face”).
Cognates include Komi-Zyrian бан (ban) and Komi-Permyak бан (ban).
