Etymology
From Proto-Mordvinic *azərə, inherited from Proto-Finno-Permic *azərɜ (“lord, ruler”). Akin to Udmurt узыр (uzyr, “rich”). Ultimately an old Iranic loanword (compare Sanskrit असुर (asura)).
