Harriet Beecher Stowe

Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1853

Harriet Beecher Stowe was an American writer. She was born on June 14, 1811 in Litchfield, Connecticut. She died on July 1, 1896 (aged 85) in Hartford, Connecticut. She married Calvin Ellis Stowe and had several children.

She wrote several novels, but is best remembered for her anti-slavery novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin. This book had great impact upon the peoples of America and Britain in the years before the American Civil War.
