George Balanchine
George Balanchine was a ballet dancer and choreographer. He was born on 22 January 1904 in St Petersburg, Russia, and died on 30 April 1983 (aged 79) in New York City, United States.
His career in ballet began in Czarist Russia as a child. In 1933, he was invited to America and founded the School of American Ballet with Lincoln Kirstein.
Along with Kirstein and Jerome Robbins, he co-founded the New York City Ballet and remained its principal choreographer for more than 35 years, alongside Mr. Robbins as co-founding choreographer.
