The area where Danish is spoken
Danish (Dansk) is a North Germanic language, spoken largely in Denmark (including the Faroe Islands (Færøerne)). 5.5 million people speak this language. Danish is also a recognized minority language in Greenland and the German state Schleswig-Holstein. The official language of Danish Deaf community is Danish Sign Language (Dansk Tegnsprog/DTS), which originated from French Sign Language (Langue des signes Française/LSF).
