Bucharest (Romanian: Bucureşti) is the capital, industrial and commercial center of Romania. It is also the largest city in the country. The city is located in the southeast of Romania, on the Dâmboviţa River. The city has a population of 1.9 million people. It is made up of six "sectors". In 1862 Bucharest became the capital of Romania. Bucharest is the 6th bigest city in the European Union.
