Antilochus neck amphora

Antilochus is a red-figure painting by the Tithonos Painter. The work is dated about 470 BC. It was painted on a neck amphora which measures 30.90 cm (12 in) in height, and 19.2 cm (7 ½ in) in diameter. The amphora is in The Louvre.

Antilochus was the son Nestor, king of Pylos. He accompanied his father to the Trojan War, and led the men of Pylos. Antilochus sacrificed his life to save that of his father when the latter was attacked by the king of Ethiopia.
